Higher National Diploma in Information Technology HNDIT

Higher National Diploma (HND) in Information Technology is offered by Sri Lanka Institute of Advanced Technological Education (SLIATE). The SLIATE is a government educational institution for higher education coming under the purview of Ministry of Higher Education, Sri Lanka. Compared to other technical education courses in Sri Lanka, recognition for these courses is higher as these institutes are managed manged under Ministry of Higher Education, Sri Lanka.

After completion of this Higher Diploma you can register for other IT degree courses.

HNDIT holders can get subject exemptions for following degree programs.

B. Sc. in Software Engineering and Information Technology – Open University of Sri Lanka
Two year exemption from University of Moratuwa BIT program.
B. Eng. in University of Vocational Technology
Degree in City and Guilds
2 Year exemptions for B. Sc. in Software Engineering – Birmingham City University of UK
Degrees awarded by Barcllay and Lincon Universities.

HNDIT is a 6 semester (3 Year) course conducted in English medium. You get NVQ Level 6  qualification after this HNDIT course.

Program design and Programming with C++, System Analysis and Design (SA & D), Fundamentals of Digital Systems and Computer Hardware, PC Application and Operating System, PC Application and Operating System, Mathematics for Computing, Web Design, Communication Skills 1

Data Structures and Algorithms, Software Engineering, Data Communication Technology, Computer Architecture, Project Management, Mini Project

Relational Database Management Systems, Computer Network and Network Programming, Rapid Development Application with .Net Platform, Enterprise Solutions(J2EE), Business Management and QT, Communication Skills 3

Graphics & Multimedia Systems, Computational Intelligence, Computer Security, E-Commerce, IT Specialization Project, Communication Skills 4

Three Specialization Paths: Developer, Administrator and Analyst.

The Entire program is divided into 3 specialized paths: Developer, Administrator and Analyst. After first year, student can select one of these three pathways to study and become a specialist in that particluar field.
Developer path is  further divided into Software Engineering and Multimedia Developer
Administrator path is divided into Network Engineering and Database Administrator
Analyst path is divided into Business Analyst and Quality Assurance

Qualification:

G.C.E.(A/L) Science or commerce stream with Ordinary passes in English & Mathematics in G.C.E (O/L)
