But here’s the good news for 2024 A/L students who got results recently — the University of Moratuwa offers an alternative pathway through aptitude tests for several prestigious creative degree programs.
These tests are designed to identify students with natural talent, creative thinking abilities, and potential that might not be fully reflected in their A/L results.
Degree Programs Available Through Aptitude Tests
The University of Moratuwa is currently accepting applications for the following degree programs for the 2024/2025 academic year:
- Bachelor of Architecture (Faculty of Architecture)
- Bachelor of Design (Faculty of Architecture)
- Bachelor of Landscape Architecture (Faculty of Architecture)
- Bachelor of Fashion Design and Product Development (Faculty of Engineering)

Basic Eligibility Requirements
To be eligible to sit for the aptitude tests, you must first meet the minimum university entrance qualifications as per the UGC Handbook 2024/2025, Section 1.2 (Obtain three ‘S’ passes at the 2024 A/L exam and 30% for the Common General Paper). The specific requirements vary by program:
For Bachelor of Architecture:
- You must have passed at least one subject from: Art, Geography, Biology, Advanced Mathematics, Chemistry, Physics, or Combined Mathematics.
- The remaining subjects can be from a specified list including Accounting, Hindi, Arabic, and many others.
- Minimum Grade ‘S’ pass in English at O/L.
- Minimum Grade ‘C’ pass in Mathematics at O/L OR minimum Grade ‘S’ pass in Mathematics at A/L.
For Bachelor of Design:
- You must have passed any three subjects at the 2024 A/L examination.
- Minimum Grade ‘S’ pass in English at O/L.
- Minimum Grade ‘C’ pass in Mathematics at O/L OR minimum Grade ‘S’ pass in Mathematics at A/L.
- Minimum Grade ‘C’ pass in Science at O/L.
For Bachelor of Landscape Architecture:
- Similar to Architecture, with at least one subject from Art, Geography, Biology, Advanced Mathematics, Chemistry, Physics, Combined Mathematics, or Agricultural Science.
- Minimum Grade ‘S’ pass in English at O/L.
- Minimum Grade ‘C’ pass in Mathematics at O/L OR minimum Grade ‘S’ pass in Mathematics at A/L.
For Bachelor of Fashion Design and Product Development:
- You must have passed any three subjects at the 2024 A/L examination.
- Minimum Grade ‘C’ passes in English, Mathematics, and Science at O/L.
Aptitude Test Details
Test Dates:
- Architecture and Landscape Architecture: May 31, 2025 (9:30 AM – 12:00 PM)
- Design: May 31, 2025 (1:30 PM – 4:00 PM)
- Fashion Design and Product Development: June 1, 2025 (9:00 AM – 12:00 PM)
Application Process:
- Complete the online application form available on the University of Moratuwa website (http://www.uom.lk) https://aptreg.uom.lk/
- Upload scanned copies of your O/L and A/L result sheets certified by your school principal, Justice of Peace, or an executive officer of the government
- Submit the payment voucher for the application fees
Application Fees:
- One program: Rs. 1,500/-
- Two programs: Rs. 3,000/-
- Three programs: Rs. 4,500/-
- Four programs: Rs. 6,000/-
Payments should be made to the University of Moratuwa Vice Chancellor’s account (Account No. 306836, Bank of Ceylon, Katubedda Branch). ATM transactions, cheques, and postal/money orders will not be accepted.
Application Deadline:
All online applications must be submitted before 6:00 PM on May 14, 2025.
