13 March 2023 – Education Minister Dr. Susil Prmajayntha said today (13 March) that it will not be possible to hold the O/L examination in 2023 May as previously planned. This is due to the delay in the commencement of A/L paper marking, which has been caused by trade union action by FUTA (Federation of Univesity Teachers Association – University Lecturers and Professors).
When asked about a specific date for when the O/L examination will be held, the Education Minister replied that the exact date will depend on when the A/L paper marking issue is resolved.
Commissioner General of Exams, Amith Jayasundara had earlier (07 January) announced that G.C.E Ordinary Level O/L 2022 Examination is scheduled to be held in May 2023, though the exact date of commencement has not been officially confirmed by the Ministry of Education.
However, Minister of Education Susil Premajayantha told Parliament yesterday (9 March) that A/L 2023 and O/L 2022 examinations will be delayed due to the present trade union action by University staff.
