Returning school children to schools after COVID-19 lockdown
“Schools will re-open in four phases, subject to adherence to health guidelines”, said State Minister of Education Reforms, Open Universities, and Distance Learning Promotion Susil Premajayantha said yesterday (9 October) at the Parliament.
During the first stage, Primary sections of the schools with less than 200 students will be opened from 21st October 2021.
Earlier, the Health Ministry said a decision was reached to form the necessary health guidelines with the Education Ministry in order to reach a policy-based decision on reopening schools.
The Health Ministry also said that 5,000 schools with less than 200 children will reopen soon, and this move will include the reopening of pre-schools and schools that teach up to Grade 06.
These schools are likely to reopen in the coming weeks, and the decision will be made by the Education Ministry, said a statement from the Health Ministry.
