Buddhism provides a plan to end suffering and attaining Nibbana (Nirvana).
Two divisions of Buddhism is being practiced globally, they are Mahayana and Theravada. Theravada Buddhism is practiced in Sri Lanka. Theravada tradition traces its roots to the words of the Buddha preserved in the Pali Canon called Tripiṭaka or Tipiṭaka, and considers itself to be the more orthodox form of Buddhism. The Tripitaka is a record of the words of the Buddha.
In Sri Lanka, Buddhist philosophy is mixed with Hinduism and practiced with mixed mindsets. But there are many who have got out of this trend and start learning true Buddhist philosophy by reading Tripitaka and stated practicing pure Theravada Buddhism in view of attaining Nibbana (Nirvana).
Many bhikkhus in Sri Lana have studied Tripitaka and understood and comprehend true Buddhism. It has been believed that they may have attained Arhat state.
