Leading non state higher education institutes (“Private Universities”) in Sri Lanka have formed an organization for non-state higher education in the Country. SLANSHEI, Sri Lanka Association of NonState Higher Education Institutes has mentioned that they have a vision of providing quality and relevant higher education opportunities to a wider section of the Society.
SLANSHEI currently has following founder members:
• Sri Lanka Institute of Information Technology (SLIIT)
• Colombo International Nautical & Engineering College ( CINEC)
• Horizon Campus
• South Asian Institute of Technology and Medicine ( SAITM)
• Aquinas University College,
• Institute of Chartered Accountants, Sri Lanka (ICASL)
• Asia Pacific Institute of Information Technology (APIIT)
Though SLANSHEI official website include only these members, more Higher Educational Institutes have joined recently to this Association such as KIU.
This Association is going to set up of a forum for exchange of ideas, knowledge and expertise for the improvement of the higher education sector in the Country; addressing issues common to non-state higher education institutes such as facilitating seamless procedure in acquiring degree awarding recognition; having in place effective and reliable quality assurance mechanisms among members and addressing perception of the general public on non-state higher education.
SLANSHEI will also hope to promote Sri Lanka’s academic Programmes in overseas markets with a view to branding Sri Lanka as a destination for quality higher education and thereby building Sri Lanka’s image as a knowledge hub.
The Founder President of SLANSHEI Prof. Lalith Gamage said that the Association will provide a minimum of 50 scholarships through its member institutions and this number will be increased over time.
