Sri Lankan National Universities offer several Undergraduate-level external degree programas and extention programs. External Degrees & Extension Courses approved by University Grants Commission (UGC) in Sri Lanka are listed below:

If you are unable to enter Government National University based on Z scores of GCE A/L examination, then you can follow an external degree progam offered by several Universities in Sri Lanka. University of Kelaniya, University of Sri Jayewardenepura, University of Peradeniya, Univesity of Colombo, University of Moratuwa, Sabaragamua University, Wayamba University and Rajarata Univesity offer external degree programs.

There has been an estimate of 90,000 external students in the Kelaniya University itself. In the circular that was published it is shown that only a few students will be admitted to the external degree programme. For example if there are 1,200 internal students at the Kelaniya university, then for the Kelaniya external programme an equal number will be admitted However, limiting the number of students who can do this degree would be a huge disadvantage not only for the student, but for the country as well.
