International Junior Science Olympiad Competition based on O/L syllabus

School children who are below 15 years of age can apply for Junior Science Olympiad competition. This competition is based on a  (a theory paper of two hour duration and this  will be based on the local O/L science syllabus covering Biology, Chemistry and Physics. The questions are MCQ & semi structured type. The examination will be conducted in English.




Since 2004, the International Junior Science Olympiad (IJSO) competition has been held in different countries. Participation in the Olympiads gives opportunities to young talented students from all over the world to share experiences and face challenges in solving science problems. It is considered an honour to any country if certificates and medals are won in this highly competitive examination. This year International Junior Science Olympiad Competition (IJSO2012) will be held in Kish Island, Iran from 1st – 10th December 2012.

Arrangements have been made to conduct the selection examination on 11th of August 2012 to select six (06) students for this prestigious event at the Department of Physics, University of Colombo. Students  who are in up to Grade 10 classes could apply for the selection examination if they are fifteen (15) years or younger (below 16) on 31st December 2012. Applicants must register on or before August 03, 2012.

Update 2013 July: 

Calling applications for International Junior Science Olympiad Competition 2013-
Selection examination will be held on 10th of August 2013 to select six (06) students to represent Sri Lanka at the 10th International Junior Science Olympiad Competition (IJSO2013) in Pune, India from 3rd – 12th December 2013.

The examination will be held at the Department of Physics, University of Colombo. Students who are in up to Grade 10 classes could apply for the selection examination if they are fifteen (15) years or younger on 31st December 2013. Applicants must register on or before August 02, 2013. The examination will be conducted in English.
