More top students from outstation schools
Royal, Visakha, Aloysius and Christ Church topped the 2007 GCE A/L Examination results released on 1 January 2008 by the Department of Examinations, Sri Lanka.
The top student in the Mathematics stream is Thirimadura Charith Yasendra Mendis (Royal College, Colombo), while Tharani Gavisha Mattake Gamage (Visakha Vidyalaya, Colombo) <photo on the left>, came first in the Commerce stream. Nadeesha Hansamali Epa (Christ Church Balika Maha Vidyalaya, Baddegama) came first in the Arts stream and Chandimal (St. Aloysius College, Galle) has topped the Bio-Science stream.
The other students who are among top three in each stream are as follows.
Arts stream: G.N. Ashan Thilanga, Richmond Vidyalaya, Galle. B.C. Waidyatilake, Trinity College, Kandy.
Bio-Science stream: S.A. Asgiriyage Senevirathne, Rahula Vidyalaya, Mathara. B.M. Waruna Sanjeewa Balasooriya, Maliyadeva Boys Vidyalaya, Kurunegala.
Commerce stream: Nadun Wickramasinghe, Mahinda Vidyalaya, Galle. K.A.S. Shashipriya Gunasekara, Ananda Maha Vidyalaya, Colombo.
Mathematics stream: K.L. Jagath Jayaranga, Maliyadewa Boys Vidyalaya, Kurunegala, Vimalanathan Rajeevan, Hartly College, Point Pedro.
Also notable was the performance of two Jaffna based students in the Maths stream who came third and fifth. Another intesting featuture was that out of the top 20 performers, 14 were from outstation schools, while only six were from Colombo’s top schools.
Z Scores
Charith Mendis accumulated 3.3349 points in the Maths stream, Gavisha Gamage 2.6917 points in the Commerce stream, Irosha Chandimal 3.1289 points in the Bio Science stream and Nadeesha Hansamali scored 2.5577 in the Arts stream.
