Courses you can do after Advanced Level
By Hiran | April 19, 2007
1. Firstly, of course you can do A Level again, If you did not work hard for the first time.
2. If you are sure about your exam results, then await for results to enter into Sri Lankan Public University system, which offer excellent degrees at no cost.
3. Then if you want to continue your classical subjects such as Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics, Economics etc. you can register into Open University degree programs. Open University degrees are also well recognized and this is a low cost option to expensive foreign degree programs.
4. Or you can follow courses to get Professional Qualifications. Popular options in this category includes Accounting courses (Chartered Accounting, CIMA, ACCA), Computing and information Technology (SLIIT, NIBM, BCS/ ACS/ NCC, Courses offered by Private Institutes), Management, Business and Marketing (NIBM, BSc Business Administration External degree, CIMA, CIM, Courses offered by Private Institutes)
5. If you have money you can go to a country like USA, UK, Australia, Russia, and India and get a foreign degree. Most students follow Medical degree courses in this way. British council offers advice for courses in UK, and Fulbright Scholarship Commission (Close to Ladies College, Colombo) offers advice on courses in USA.
6. There are also several Private Institutes now in Sri Lanka which are affiliated to Foreign Universities, who offer degree (B.Sc. and other) programs in Sri Lanka. With these institutes you can get degrees in various subjects including Management, IT, Health Sciences, Natural, Applied and Pure Sciences.

After my A/L examination, I registered for Open University course. I am doing Zoology, Botany and Chemistry.
This seems to be a cheaper option to get a degree in Sri Lanka, rather than spending sooo much money on foreign education.

I agree with your comment on OU cousers. If you have money ( I mean your parents) you can get OU degree in Sri Lanka and spend your money on post graduate studies in overseas.

Skip or kick whatever that comes in your way. Kick the Advanced Level off if you feel it is getting in your way.
Follow elders’ advice or choose your instinct on your future.
Don’t bother about your results. Be prepared to take whatever that comes with it. It is shameful to go after that Advanced Level thing again if you had enough of it.
You’ll be surprised with the number of opportunities available to you if you do a little survey. Most times you’ll be happy being more than one step ahead of your colleagues who are bothering about the results and preparing to go through the same process again.
If you can work and earn more than 10k/- you are able to follow a degree. Just seek and you shall find.
*-This is more than enough for your future.-*

Well most of the students do CIM/CIMA and other aat like courses. But they should be aware of the centers they study for capability, facilities, lecturers ect. for the students around kandy, i suggest u should try MIIT,kandy for above mentioned courses.

Hi Friends, I’ve Done A/L in 2004 and I fail all the subjects. Because I only like Computers and always wanna learn it. I got 10 A’s in O/Ls. I went to NIBM and paid Rs 60,000 & also failed all subjects. I began to realize that I’m depending upon teachers. After these big falls I decide to get a fresh start from the begening. I did a simple ms office course at vta pannipitiya. Next I Followed National Diploma in ICT at vta narahenpita. I suceed the both courses very well with “A” passes for all subjects. Just want to say self study is the best thing. I never depend on teachers and nw I’m so confidence about me. There will be no further falls in my educational path.
