Download 2022 A/L Minimum Z Score Tables for University Admissions

Z score values for university selection

These Z score tables for 2022 A/L provide valuable insights into the cutoff scores required for admission to various degree programs across the country’s universities.

The Z score system allows the UGC to standardize and compare student performance across different curriculums, districts, and years. A higher Z score indicates you performed better relative to other students in that subject.

These tables are organized with rows representing different districts and columns displaying courses offered at universities, shown as [subject] combinations like [Biological Science]. The values listed are the minimum Z scores that qualified for admission to those particular programs for the 2022 A/L batch.

For example, if a row lists the district as Colombo and the course as [Physical Science], the corresponding value of say 2.15 means students from the Colombo district needed a minimum Z score of 2.15 for their Physical Science subjects to be admitted to that degree program in the 2022 intake.

  • Minimum “Z” Scores for selection to various Courses of Study of Universities under the Normal Intake, in respect of each district

How do you interpret and estimate your university selection?

While these are the minimum scores for last year’s admission cycle, the tables give current students a good gauge for estimating the Z score benchmarks they may need to attain when the 2023 A/Level results are processed for university placements.

Here are some tips on how to interpret and leverage this data:

  1. Identify the courses and universities you’re interested in and locate the corresponding columns and rows. This will show the minimum Z score cut-offs for those in previous admissions.
  2. For highly competitive programs like Medicine, look at the highest minimum Z scores across all districts. This sets the benchmark nationally.
  3. Compare minimum Z scores for your preferred degree courses across multiple university options to understand varying requirements.
  4. Use your mock test or past performance to get a rough estimate of the Z score you may achieve in the upcoming 2023 A/Levels.
  5. Based on this projection, you can set a target Z score higher than the minimum from last year to increase your admission prospects.
