Only 6 universities have been ranked in the THE World University Rankings 2024 released yesterday (27 September 2023). The University of Colombo and the University of Peradeniya got first place in Sri Lanka while the University of Kelaniya and the University of Sri Jayewardenepura are placed in third place and General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University and Sri Lanka Institute of Information Technology are ranked in reporter status.
THE – The Times Higher Education ranking system

THE World University Rankings 2024 lists the following universities in Sri Lanka:
- University of Colombo (1001-1200)
- University of Peradeniya (1001-1200)
- University of Kelaniya (1501+)
- University of Sri Jayewardenepura (1501+)
- General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University (Reporter)
- Sri Lanka Institute of Information Technology (Reporter)

However, It is important to note that THE rankings are just one of many factors you should consider when choosing a university. Other factors, such as the university’s location, the reputation of a university course as per Z-score value, courses available, and Cost (in the case of Private Universities) should also be taken into account.
