If you’re considering pursuing a degree at a Sri Lankan national university, you may have come across the terms “Special Degrees” and “Honours Degrees.” You may be wondering if there’s any difference between these two types of degrees.
According to the University Grants Commission Student Handbook, there is no difference between Special Degrees and Honours Degrees. The naming of these degree programs was changed based on the instructions of the Sri Lanka Qualifications Framework (SLQF), but this change does not affect the content or quality of the degree program.
In other words, whether a degree is called a Special Degree or an Honours Degree, it’s still a high-quality program that meets the same academic standards. So, when you’re choosing a degree program, you can focus on finding the one that best fits your interests and goals, rather than worrying about whether it’s called a Special Degree or an Honours Degree.
