Around 557,505 People belonging to 151,392 families were affected in 15 Districts due to the recent flooding and landslides in Sri Lanka. Death toll from #FloodSL has risen to 180 with 109 are missing and closer to 600,000 people affected (29 May 2017). Relief work continues in several cities and now it is the time to help flood victims to regain their life.

Red Cross Emergency Appeal seeks 3,622,689 Swiss francs (CHF) to enable the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) to support the Sri Lanka Red Cross Society (SLRCS) in delivering assistance and support to 40,000 people affected by floods and landslides. The operation focuses on the following sectors: essential household items; shelter (emergency and recovery); livelihoods; water, sanitation and hygiene; health; restoring family links, disaster risk reduction and institutional disaster response capacity enhancement.

Starting from Friday (26th May, 2017), SLAF has been deploying its Mi-17, Bell-212 and Bell-412 Helicopters for emergency rescue operations, medical evacuation, cargo and troop transport, and B200 Beachcraft for airborne reconnaissance in Colombo,Galle,Rathnapura and Kalutara areas.
Additionally, SLAF also supplied fresh and dry rations through air to the affected, from SLAF Base Ratmalana and SLAF Koggala. SLAF has also setup a special relief supply collection center at the Air Movement Section of SLAF Base Ratmalana to assist flood victims.
