The Fourth stage of the university student training programme on development of Leadership Qualities & Positive Thinking, for students who are eligible to enter universities for 2013/2014 Academic year based on 2013 A/L results will commence today (September 7, 2014) . This program consists of three batches.
Out of 23,500 students selected for this program 7,500 will be trained in the first batch, 8,000 in the second and 8,000 students will be accomodated in the third batch, said Higher Education Minister of S.B. Dissanayake.

He added that the Higher Education Ministry, the University Grants Commission and the Defence Ministry are conducting the programme in selected Army, Navy, Air Force and Police base camps as training centers, for students selected for university entrance this year.

University entrants can enter their complete National Identity Card number to get the details of their dates and venues of training.
This residential training programme will be conducted for three weeks, with the Government providing board and lodging, along with a Hand Book pertaining to the course, two books titled, ‘Nutrition Book’ and ‘University Ragging’, two T- shirts, two track bottoms and a cap required for physical training, free of cost Students with special difficulties and disabilities, illnesses such as heart and kidney ailments, communicable diseases or other illnesses, can refrain from participating in the training, subject to permission obtained on providing valid information. Furthermore, students who are ill, but still wish to follow the training, will be allowed to do so subject to informing their respective training centers. Medical facilities will be provided at these centers.
“Even if you are unable to get a printout from the system, you can proceed to the Training Center you are allocated with your NIC, as we have sent all the details of the candidates to each and every training center,” the Higher Education Ministry advised.
The course will include subjects such as Future Vision of Sri Lanka & Global Changes, Formulation of a Strategic Life Plan and reaching long term Objectives, Physical Exercises, First Aid, Leadership Qualities & Leadership, Conflict Management, Psychology, Sexual Harassment, Legal Environment, Social Traditions, Hostel Manners, Nourishment, Personal Hygiene & Beauty Culture, where experts in these areas will conduct the lectures.
“We believe that this training programme will be a very valuable contribution to make University Students’ life meaningful and provide the necessary background to become a responsible citizens with positive attitudes and inculcate leadership qualities in them,” the minister stated.
Candidates are requested to take two prints of the slip and letter available online, along with their NIC, if they do not receive the letter.
