According to the results released by Department of Examinations, three students scored 195 marks and become island first in Grade Five Scholarship examination conducted in August, 2011. These students are Oshadhi Rashiprabha Fonseka of Kalutara Balika Maha Vidyalaya, Nethmi Ranaweera of Miriswatta Maha Vidyalaya, Dodamgoda and Naleem Zaky Ahamed of Kekirawa Muslim Maha Vidyalaya.
According to Examinations Commissioner General Anura Edirisinghe, two students have obtained the second place with 194 marks. They are Lakshitha Sathsara Sumanapala of Medagama Maha Vidyalaya, Bibile and Parameswaran Shethuragavan of Neththaliyaru Tamil Vidyalaya, Visuvamadu West. Four students have attained third place obtaining 193 marks.
Based on these results, about 31,000 students have qualified to receive scholarships and enter popular schools. Out of these, 16,000 students will enter popular schools while 15,000 will receive financial help as scholarships.
