Sir John Kotelawala Defense University (KDU) offers degree courses at both undergraduate and post graduate levels. Founded in 1981 as a Defence Academy, KDU was elevated to the level of a university in 1986.
It offers following degree programs:
(2) Bachelor of Science (BSc) Engineering in Civil / Mechanical / Electrical & Electronic/Marine. Four years (Male & Female) For those who have passed Physical Science subjects at theGCE (A/L) Examination.
(3) Bachelor of Laws (LLB) – Three years (Male & Female) For those who have passed three of the following Subjects at the GCE (A/L)Examination. Accountancy, Political Science,Agricultural Sciences, Economics, Geography,Biology, Advanced Mathematics, Business Statistics, History, Business Studies, Chemistry,Physics, Sinhala/ Tamil, English (Subject No 73),Logic & Scientific Method, Mathematics/ Combined Mathematics
(4) Bachelor of Science (BSc) Management & Technical Sciences. Three years (Male & Female) For those who have passed Bio Science (withPhysics or Mathematics as a subject) or PhysicalScience subjects at the GCE (A/L) Examination.
(5) Bachelor of Science (BSc) Logistic Management. – Three years (Male & Female) For those who have passed three (3) of the followingsubjects at the GCE (A/L) Examination.Accountancy, Business Studies, Geography, Logicand Scientific Method, Economics, Mathematics/Combined Mathematics, English (Subject No 73),General Information Technology, Business Statistics,Communication and Media Studies
(6) Bachelor of Science (BSc) Social Studies.- Three years (Male & Female) For those who have passed three (03) subjects including at least two (02)of the following subjects at the GCE (A/L)Examination. Geography, Business Statistics,Economics, Logic and Scientific Method, History,Communication and Media Studies, English (Subject No 73), General Information Technology, Mathematics, Political Science, Business Studies
The duration of all the degree programmes is three years except MBBS and BSc Engineering degree programmes of which the durations are five & a half and four years respectively. One year Advanced Military Training component of the above degree programmes will be provided at the respective Military Academies of the Army / Navy / Air Force (except for MBBS) as determined by the Board of Management.
