Multimedia educational lessons for school children

SchoolNet web site of the Department of Education, Sri Lanka has published Interactive Multimedia Educational Materials related to few key subjects in the G.C.E O/L (Grade 10 and Grade 11) and G.C.E. A/L (Grade 12 and 13). The subjects covered are Mathematics (O/L), Science (O/L), English (O/L), Agriculture (A/L), Geography (O/L) and History (O/L).

You can watch videos and learn online using these multimedia lessons which are available in Sinhala, Tamil and English mediums. These are available at Multimedia secion of SchoolNet web site.

A/L educational television lessons on Rupavahini Jathika Pasala

Rupavahini launched an educational TV program series for GCE Advanced Level students, telecast early morning from 3.30- 5.00 am. Renowned teachers, University lecturers and Professors conduct lessons in this 45 minute TV program series, which started from June 2011. The program is titled as Jathika Pasala.

Prof Hiran Amarasekera (Biology), Bandara Dissanayake (Economics), Upul Shantha Sannasgala (Sinhala), Supun Jayasinghe, M Miqdhad (Logic), Sampath Aldeniya, Humara Aththidiya, Hemapriya Kaviratne (Political Science), Aruna Gunasekara and Anoma Kalubowila are some of the teachers that conduct these programs according to their web site. This program series cover 20 subjects in A/L Science, Arts and Commerce subject streams.

Question papers and program videos can be downloaded form the official web site of the Jathika Pasala, and questions of the programs are punished in Dinamina Newspaper.

Google Body Browser, a Google Earth for the human body

Google has an application called Body Browser, a detailed 3D model of the human body. It lets you explore the human body just like you can explore the world in Google Earth.

You can use Google Body Browser using WebGL-enabled browser such as latest versions of Chrome, Firefox or Internet Explorer.

This video, title ‘A Vision of Students Today’ details some of the most important characteristics of students today – how they learn, what they need to learn, their goals, hopes, dreams, what their lives will be like, and what kinds of changes they will experience in their lifetime.

It seems as in Sri Lanka, students in US universities also do not read, use laptops for fun rather than learning, facebook, pay for classes and textbooks that they don’t go to or don’t use, etc.
