Department of Examinations published Model Papers (Protype Questions) and structure of the question papers and for G.C.E.(A.L) Examination from 2011 Onwards. These papers can be download from Examination Department web site.

These are available as different volumes (pdf books).

New (2011 December): 2011 Science Model papers Sinhala and English by Mr K Ariyasinghe

You can now download free model papers for GCE O/L (ordinary Level) by popular lecturers.

Science paper was prepared by most experienced O/L teacher in Sri Lanka: Mr K Ariyasinghe. Mr Ariyasinghe has been teaching O/L for more than 40 years, and has written many O/L science text books. He has been a popular writer for many Sri Lankan news papers, including Vidusara.

Mathematics paper was prepared by Mr Sanjeewa Wijerathna.

Sinhala paper was prepared by Mr Thiranjaya Gamlath.

A/L educational television lessons on Sirasa TV

(Updated September 2009) Sirasa TV started an educational program series for GCE Advanced Level students, telecast early morning from 5.00- 6.00 am. Leading professional teachers conduct lessons in this 30 minute program series, which started from third week of July 2010. The program is titled as A3.

Graduate-ship private degree program in Chemistry for students after A/L in Sri Lanka

Student asked me yesterday, that she has only one B and two C passes for GCE A/L examination, so that she may not be selected to a government university in Sri Lanka. So what are the options for her to follow private higher degree program in Sri Lanka. Various higher education and career options for students after advanced level examination are listed on this web site.

One option is to follow a degree in Chemistry offered by College of Chemical Sciences, affiliated to Institute of Chemistry, Sri Lanka, which maintains high degree of academic standards as the lectures are conducted by university senior lecturers and professors in Chemistry.

This is a three year program, normally started in January- February each year, after GCE Advanced Level results are released. This degree is equivalent to BSc degree in Chemistry, so after graduation you can follow post-graduate program in Chemistry in Sri Lanka or abroad. According to their news paper advertisement, 91 qualified Chemical Science graduates passed out from the college in 2009. Eligibility to enter this course is 3 A/L passes or equivalent. Free Chemistry Lessons for students and teachers

There are some sites offering free Chemistry resources, for Advanced Level students and University students.

One such site is Chemistry Never Sleeps which is a mix of Chemistry resources for teachers and students. A recent post included a slide presentation about the Periodic Table.

Mr. Guch’s Free Stuff for Chemistry Teachers is another site containing free stuff which includes four free ebooks containing lesson plans, lectures, and quizzes that Mr. Guch developed for his high school Chemistry classes.

New A/L Science curricula for 2011 students

You can now download A/L, O/L or any other school syllabuses from official web site of the NIE.

Major changes of the proposed curricula of Advanced Level Physics, Chemistry and Biology were presented at the seminar held on 22 February at University of Sri Jayewardenepura as part of the ViduJaya Science exhibition. Powerpoint slides presented at this seminar can be dowloaded as a pdf file from University of Sri Jayewardenepura Exhibition web site.
