Become a Government School Teacher – Admission to National Colleges of Education (Vidya Peeta)
National Colleges of Education, commonly named as Vidya Peeta conducts Three Year Pre-Service Professional Course in Teacher Education. You need three passes in one sitting at the G.C.E. (A/L) Examination and Credit passes in some GCE O/L subjects to apply these courses.
These National Colleges are located at (1) Uva, (2) Nilwala, (3) Mahaweli, (4) Sariputta, (5) Siyane, (6) Vavuniya, (7) Sri Pada, (8) Addalaichenai , (9) Batticaloa, (11) Pulathisipura, (12) Wayamba, (14) Ruhuna, (15) Jaffna , (17) Hapitigam, (16) Dharga Town
Courses conducted here include Primary education, Mathematics, Science, Physical Education, English, Buddhism, Hinduism, Islam, Catholicism/Christianity, Agriculture and Food Technology, Technical studies, Crafts and Arts, Drama, Dance, Music, Information and communication technology, First Language (sinhala), second language (tamil), Social studies etc.
Duration of a Training Course is three years. This period consists of two years residential institutional training in the National College of Education and one year internship training while being attached to a school. During the period of two years residential training a trainee will be provided with meals and lodging facilities to the value of Rs. 2,000 per month for ten months in a year. During the Internship year a monthly allowance of Rs. 2,500 will be paid for ten months.
Applicants successfully completing this Course will be considered for appointments as teachers based on the availability of vacancies on Education Zonal Level in difficult districts.
Application deadline for 2012 intake based on 2010 A/L examination is 15 July 2011. Applications for 2012 intake can be downloaded from 2012 Gazette (following links).
Application deadline for 2011 intake is 30 July 2010. Application and other details can be download from Government Gazette on 09 July 2010.

When will the gazettes be called in 2011 for this English courses?I have done my A/L exam in 2010 and I have got an “A” pass for English.And also I’ve got an “A” pass for O/L English,also a “B” pass for English literature.I have a credit pass for A/L business studies,and a simple pass for accountancy,another simple pass for economics.I want to know when will the interviews be called?

@Hansi – May be because this is also like university selection: free education and a job as a teacher if you follow these courses.
Y doesn’t it allow for a applicent who has done his/her AL abt 5 years back to apply for the courses given that he/she comply with all other requirements.
