SLIIT launched the University Grants Commission (UGC) approved Engineering degree programme to be offered by a non-state sector institute for the first time in Sri Lanka.

SLIIT, the largest degree awarding institute outside the state sector has diversified its academic programmes to include the engineering degree programme. SLIIT is the only non-state higher education institute in Sri Lanka that has been granted UGC approval for Engineering degrees. The institute is also a member of the prestigious Association of Commonwealth Universities. SLIIT will be offering Engineering degrees in the following specializations; Civil Engineering, Electrical & Electronic Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and Materials Engineering. The institute also conducts engineering programs with long-standing academic partners Curtin University – Australia and Sheffield Hallam University – UK.

“With large scale infrastructure investments and project development in the country in both the private industry and the government sector, there is a growing demand for engineering professionals” states Professor Lalith Gamage, President and CEO of SLIIT. “We feel that the introduction of this degree programme is timely in filling a much-needed gap for highly qualified engineers with sound practical knowledge in the country. As SLIIT will always have its finger on the pulse of Sri Lanka’s tertiary education needs, now is the time to respond and begin our UGC approved engineering degree programme at our newest faculty, the Faculty of Engineering.

i want to study diploma course in education course in srilanka. Which colleges offer undergraduate diploma courses in education in srilanka

  26. Faraj Farook says:

I’m totally agreeing with the article. You cant expect 100% talent from all 100% undergraduates.

We cant measure ones talent from A/L. But for sure, we can tell that the percentage of the talented ones in Moratuwa is comparatively higher than the ones in SLIIT or APIIT or any other private colleges in Sri Lanka. But If we can take a student as person. I bet there are students in SLIIT who has the knowledge and talent to compete with graduates from Moratuwa.

A/L doesn’t speak about every aspect of a student..

I am a SLIIT undergraduate student. What is the minimum GPA level to obtain a scholarship to enter to an American university?? Please reply..

  31. Maduranga says:

    Specially NIBM IT Course එක කියන්නේ IT වලටම පමනක් සීමා උන course එකක් නෙවේ .ඒකේ Business,Management පැත්තත් තියනවා.වි්‍යාපාර සදහා computer technology බාවිතය ගැන තමා උගන්වනේ.
    UCD-Dublin Degree එකත් Bsc in MIS එකක්.
(7 lacks ).

    I am a 2011 A/L student
.It was said the we have to sit for GIT exam 29 august 2010.
Is it a compulsory exam? and they say its the same as O/L ICT syllabus of 2008.and i have obtained A pass for ICT in 2008 O/L

  35. Susantha Paranawitharana says:

Does SLIIT produce coders or software engineers? In the software industry I think Moratuwa e fac software engineers and other talented guys from state universities get good jobs as they should be more talented (clever?) in passing A/L than those who go into private education.
So SLIIT students should work more harder than those enter into state universites, and get more skills in securing a job, as there would be more than 1500 IT graduates are passed out each year from private and state universities.

  36. PNP says:

I recommend you to do SLIIT.Because It is the only IT degree awarding institute which permitted by the UGC.If you do hard you can gain schols semester by semester.
BIT is a low cost program.but it provides only developers not the software engineers. NIBM is high cost program.but you can study in foreign after their diploma.also you can gain schols also. I don’t know much about APIIT

  37. Kumara says:

After A/L I am looking for options. SLIIT, NIBM, BIT or APIIT. Which one to select?
