NIBM courses and lecturing are very well. They never miss a lecture, and all lectures are conducted according to the time table.
But there fees are also very expensive. Being a government institute, you expect them to charge a reasonable amount, as opposed to private sector educational institutes.
NIBM is also going to be profit oriented rather than providing a true service in developing human resources to the nation?
ALTERNATIVES TO NIBM – BIT, SLIIT, CIMA.
I extracted folloiwng (from another site) advice given to a student who has beeen selected to University.

Kavindu,
Yes compared to other institutes charges are bit high at NIBM, still they have a good demand for their courses. But I think foreign degrees offered are somewhat fair. If we go to ACBT or other foreign degree provider they charge nearly 1 million for these degrees.
However there’s a conception among people if prices aer too low quality is also not that much. That might be another reason for charging competitive prices.
IT diploma of NIBM is highly recognized in the job market. Theres a competition to join this course each year.
Thanks for the wonderful article.
Wayne,
I totaly agree with your post. There are many options after school education. If you can enter a national university for a good course that would be wonderful. otherwise you can opt for courses in Management, IT, Technical education(with the rapid development in Sri Lanka there will be number of technical jobs in future).
Yes I also think as a government institute NIBM charges higher fees. They can give their service at more reasonable prices.
I have to say one thing, If you have a interest to any thing that will motivates to your future in brighter. So i am interested IT I chose my path from NIBM. today I am successful at End, Compare to the others it will helpful every point. My friends are still at university 2nd year or 3rd year but I have completed my Graduation & started Masters as well. Think clearly chose best way, All the best for Every one.
Let me know how is Degree of Business management in sinhala
Please send all details
let me know how is degree of business managent in tamil
After my A/L i did its one year popular DCSD programme(99.1 batch), It gave me a sound foundation in Computer Science(Not IT, Not Internet), Business management, and technology (The Computing technology modules 1& 2 are unpopular ones amongst students) after the diploma I entered the University ( i did the diploma in my gap time, those days we had a bit long gap in entering the Uni), did maths, I am currently a Trainer in Information Security, many of my friends went in to the industry soon after the NIBM diploma all are doing well
i perused a different path, made my hobby as the career ( yeah i like teaching primarily)
As a trainer and educator and with experience of working with national and multinational companies in Education in Sri Lanka and abroad I would recommend NIBM as a first choice for all who wants to start up their career in IT or Business management
i take this opportunity to thank all the teachers of NIBM DCSD 99.1 batch
Abdullah
I Respectfully Disagree With The Guys Who Speak Well About NIBM.It Depends Totally On Your Abiliy. After My O/L s I Also went to Do The DCSD On 2005.And Failed All Semesters. Yes It Is My Friends. NOT ONLY ME FAILED. There Were Lot Of Guyz And Girls Like Me.On That Year When We Look At Our Result Sheets There Were 90% Of Students Who Failed Or Abscent For The Exam. Nobody Will Go There ToWaste Money Like That. So Heres My Advice To The Freshers.
1) Just First Do your Advance Level Exam.(Consider This As A Golden Rule). That Will Levitate your Brain level to the DCSD Standard.
2) Be Good In English. Coz They Never Teach It Like Our School Teachers. Only the Boolean Algebra Parts Are Easy To Understand for a Beginner Who just Did His OL s And Only New To Turn On/Off a Computer. No Electronics. No Commerce Things. No QTC.
It Is not wise to blame to NIBM if you failed As Me. Coz There are guys who pass it. But I Just want to mentioned How I Feel About NIBM
I Failed All Subjects In DCSD. Yes Not Even a Single Pass Due to There Crazy 66.5 Cut off marks on Those Days.
Latter I did my ALs. Then I Realize that The problem is not with the NIBM but with myself. Then I Began studying my NIBM books at home And Voila !, I Can Understand Things As Clean As a Pure Water Will Be. I Am Very Sad Coz My 3 Year Time Period Went Out. So I Lost The Ball. But My Understand Of Things Is Really High Now.
I’m Tharindu Dasun. Most People Knows Me Abour VB.Net & C# Tutorials I Made For The http://kuppiya.com/
@Tharindu – Thanks for your independent comment on NIBM. I visited kuppiya.com web site, and found very good IT related tutorials in Sinhala. Studentlanka believes that sri lanka need such type of information and educational sites.
i also a nibm management student .additionally i do cima as well. i recommend nibm for all, because it has highly updated syllabus compared to the government universities as well as the recognition in the job market .actually its not just learning .they provide opportunities to improve presentation skills ,personality, confidence with the learning.additionally they give the opportunity to work after completing the 2nd year which is really helpful to gain the experience .
but the exams are really tough and not easy to go through.. when it comes to the cost factor it is bit high, around 700000 for complete the whole degree from UCD . but considering the university rankings, UCD Dublin is among @ top 100 universities of the world.
