Courses you can do after Advanced Level

1. Firstly, of course you can do A Level again, If you did not work hard for the first time.
2. If you are sure about your exam results, then await for results to enter into Sri Lankan Public University system, which offer excellent degrees at no cost.
3. Then if you want to continue your classical subjects such as Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics, Economics etc. you can register into Open University degree programs. Open University degrees are also well recognized and this is a low cost option to expensive foreign degree programs. Graduate-ship programs of Institute of Chemistry is also very popular among science students.
4. Or you can follow courses to get Professional Qualifications. Popular options in this category includes Accounting courses (Chartered Accounting, CIMA, ACCA), Computing and information Technology (SLIIT, NIBM, BCS/ ACS/ NCC, Courses offered by Private Institutes), Management, Business and Marketing (NIBM, BSc Business Administration External degree, CIMA, CIM, Courses offered by Private Institutes)
5. If you have money you can go to a country like USA, UK, Australia, Russia, and India and get a foreign degree. Many students follow Foreign Medical degree courses in Nepal, Russia, Bangladesh, China, India etc. British council offers advice for courses in UK, and Fulbright Scholarship Commission (Close to Ladies College, Colombo) offers advice on courses in USA.
6. There are also several Private Institutes now in Sri Lanka which are affiliated to Foreign Universities, who offer degree (B.Sc. and other) programs in Sri Lanka. With these institutes you can get degrees in various subjects including Management, IT, Health Sciences, Natural, Applied and Pure Sciences.
7. You can follow an external degree (such as Science, Arts, Business Management or BIT), and now there are Online degree programs offered by several Sri Lankan and foreign universities.
8. There are other free higher education courses such as Kotalawela defense university, Technical Colleges, National Colleges of Education (Vidya Peeta) and Agriculture Diplomas.
9. Last but not least, you can do law entrance examination and enter Law college to become a Lawyer.

dear sir, i would like to follow computer science degree.i did A/Lin the year of 2008 in bio stream.i got 3C for bio,phy,che and i got “B” for gen english.can i follow this degree at polgolla opening university in english medium.and i also want to know when they will call for this course,duration of the course,and how much will it cost for the whole degree.if not may i know is there any IT field that i can follow in opening university can u pls inform me
In Open University you can follow computer science with two other subjects bot, zoo or chem
Hi,i have passed A/L in 2008. i did Arts. But all are “s”. I have ‘A” in English in O/L and “C” in A/L. What can i do??? I like to become english teacher or can i don Social Science External? Start when???

There is a medical training institute (technical level) at Katukurunda, Kalutara. You can also try some courses by private institutes such as Path institute.

Check the courses above. Another suggestion is to sit for law entrance exam and enter into law college to become lawyer.

Dear Sir,
I have a C for physics and a S for chem but failed maths. Due to private reasons when i was doing ALs.
Now i am pursuing a degree in IT. I will be having the diploma this month. But due to financial problems i can not continue this degree programme.
Sir, would you please tell me if there is any HND-like or a diploma level Mathematics course available in sri lanka? Maybe a Math diploma course in a uni?

There are Post graduate Mathematics diplomas. But for undergrad level, you have to follow Open University or BIT computer external degree etc..

BIT – You can ask from Open university. But BIT is conducted by University of Colombo and you have to go private classes at various places. You can check for classes at Kandy.
